Glorenza Val Venosta

Glorenza Val Venosta (German Glurns) is one of the seven medieval cities in South Tyrol and the smallest; this city is the smallest in Italy. It’s included in the “most charming towns in Italy” with Vipiteno (German: Sterzing). The Glorenza inhabitants say to joke:”Our city is so small that we have to go out of the city walls to go to church”. Culture lovers spending their holidays in Italy in Glorenza Val Venosta can visit the city walls and the three portals leading to the city; in the city walls there’s a museum which illustrates the city history. This city was an important transit point in the Middle Ages for cattle, wine and salt merchants; they all were obliged to stop in Glorenza; if not, they had to pay a very heavy fine. Glorenza Val Venosta is also famous thanks to its “Souls market” (Italian: Mercato delle anime, German: Seelenmarkt, South Tyrolean dialect: Sealamorkt). This market takes place on November 2nd every year, to remind its mercantile past.
